Magical Musical Moments was founded in 2004 with the mission of improving lives through music. Using music in a specialized manner, we strive to facilitate change and growth among people of all ages. Services are currently offered through three different categories: music therapy/music enrichment, Kindermusik®, and music education. Music therapy is the specialized use of music to achieve nonmusical goals, such as, improved motor skills, development of speech and language skills or self-improvement. Music enrichment is designed to develop both musical and non-musical skills, improving understanding in areas such math and reading. For infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, we feature Kindermusik®, a developmental music and movement program. Music education is offered for children or adults interested in developing their musicianship or learning an instrument through an in-school program, after school enrichment, or individual lessons.
Rachel Harr, a Board Certified Music Therapist, a Neurologic Music Therapist, and a licensed Kindermusik® educator, founded Magical Musical Moments with the desire of sharing the power of music. Ms. Harr began playing flute as a young child and quickly realized that she always wanted music to play an important role in her life. While working as an assistant teacher in a preschool, she was awed by the effect that music had on her students. Ms. Harr discovered that as a music therapist she would be able to share her love of music in a manner that would help others. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Music Therapy from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA in 2002. She has earned her credential in Neurologic Music Therapy from the Center for Bio-Medical Research, enabling her to use music as a therapuetc medium that directly impacts the functioning of the brain.
With over ten years experience working with children in a variety of settings, Ms. Harr became Licensed Kindermusik Educator in 2003 because she felt that the philosophy of Kindermusik reflected her principles as a music therapist. Ms. Harr has facilitated Kindermusik classes in settings all over the Los Angeles area. Her favorite aspect and inspiration for teaching Kindermusik is the uninhibited excitement children have for experiencing all things musical.
In addition, Rachel Harr holds various volunteer positions. As a member of the executive board for the Western Region Chapter of the American Music Therapy Association, Ms. Harr advocates for music therapy, as well as, the sharing of ideas and research among music therapists and related professionals. In the Los Angeles Winds, she plays in the flute section and is a member of the executive committee. Although Ms. Harr is a strong supporter of using music therapeutially, she promotes the great value of enjoyment the aesthetics of performing arts.
