Foundations of Learning statements contain information for parents about how musical activites are improving certain developmental areas.
In addition to the teacher providing the information, the lyric sheets posted in the classroom will use the following symbols to indicate which area of development is being targeted during the corresponding musical activity.
Language includes both the development of speech skills and vocabulary.
Vocal play is when the teacher or parent encourages the child to respond to syllables or silly words by changing the infection of the voice. This musical activity is important for infants and toddler developing speech and later on for developing singing skills.
Learning vocabulary can be improved by incorporating actions into the learning process! During movement activities, labeling a child's movement or labeling a movement as you encourage them to imitate helps them understand the new word.
